What is Emergency Trauma Care in a Tactical Environment (TECC)?
What is Emergency Trauma Care in a Tactical Environment (TECC)?
Tactical Emergency Casualty Care transfers the lessons of military combat casualty care (TCCC) into the civilian sector, with guidelines regularly updated by C-TECC (Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care). This is not classic first aid — it is training in how to save lives while the threat is still active.
Why is this training essential?
In incidents such as active threats, explosions or mass casualties, traditional first aid is not enough. The training teaches how you save lives while the threat is still active, through the three phases of care:
- Direct Threat Care (Hot Zone): care under direct threat.
- Indirect Threat Care (Warm Zone): care in a relatively safe environment.
- Evacuation Care (Cold Zone): care during evacuation.
Who needs this training?
It is aimed at professionals with a duty to intervene: Police, Fire Service, Coast Guard, rescuers and security personnel — those who often arrive first at an incident, before specialist healthcare help arrives.
See the full C-TECC First Responders with Duty to Act programme for more details.
